Frenemies fans were forced to wave the white flag this month after former co-host Ethan Klein went live with a strong rebuke of his brother-in-law Moses Hacmon.

“This is the only way I can think to stop him bothering his poor mom,” Ethan said.

Why did Frenemies end?

Since the final episode of Frenemies three years ago, fans have speculated on its demise and who is to blame. Immediately following the split, the apparent cause was co-host Trisha Paytas’ disrespect for the H3 crew members and being generally uncooperative. But, bits and pieces shared over the years suggested that the central beef wasn’t between Ethan and Trisha, but between their spouses. Ethan’s wife Hila Klein and Trisha’s husband Moses Hacmon happen to be brother and sister. Trisha met Moses through the H3 “BacH3lorette” series, although Moses was not a contestant.

The popularity of Frenemies and the vague circumstances surrounding its untimely end have left fans wondering constantly about the possibility of a reunion.

The topic is frequently brought up to the Kleins by podcast guests or at events. Just a few weeks ago at the Celebrity Poker Tour table, friend of both couples Tana Mongeau asked Ethan and Hila about the possibility of reconciliation, echoing the pleas of fans online.

The Kleins tend to quickly dismiss the topic, often nodding to Trisha’s recent success and wishing her well. The public received few details, and fans could tell that the prodding questions made the couple uncomfortable.

Will there be a Frenemies reunion?

No one dared breach the topic so openly as Howie Mandel. In his H3 Show appearance on August 16, Howie implored Hila to mend her relationship with her brother, saying it bothered him that they didn’t speak.

To fans’ surprise, Hila actually spoke on it.

“Normally I would shut this down completely and immediately,” she said, “but I feel like it keeps coming up and every time people see us that’s the first thing they ask.”

She spoke candidly about how she never thought she’d be in this situation and that the dispute has exhausted her so much in both her personal and professional life, that she may, for the first time, be open to building a bridge.

Howie said that you don’t need to like a person to be able to love them, which resonated with Hila.

“What if your family member’s just a giant fucking asshole?” Ethan asked.

“You could say that, but I love this giant fucking asshole who happens to be my brother,” Howie replied.

Ethan Klein calls out Moses Hacmon

With a reunion finally within reach, fans were shocked when Ethan came out with a bold admonishment of Moses on his August 29 episode.

“You’re a grown man that cries, and bitches, and pisses to his mom every time I mention your name, stop,” he said.

In his strong but balanced statement, Ethan revealed that Moses had been complaining to his mother, Ethan’s mother-in-law, every time he was brought up on the show, whether it was positive or negative.

Speaking as a united front with his wife, Ethan boldly put himself in the line of fire in order to put an end to the needless torment.

“He keeps inserting his poor mom into the middle of conflict,” he said. Many criticized Ethan for his brash-ness, but the chivalry of his statement became clear after Hila gave more context on the September 4 episode. She said that after the episode with Howie Mandel, her brother chose to send their mom an unflatteringly edited clip of their conversation.

“In that conversation, I feel like for the first time I put out there that I’m maybe willing to open that door,” Hila explained, “but what really hurt me to see… is that what he chose to send to my mom was the clip of Ethan saying ‘what if your family member is an asshole?’”

“Which, by the way, to me,” Hila added, “actually seemed like a really good point.”

Hila said that this isn’t the first time Moses has sent cherry-picked clips to their mother in an effort to gain sympathy and pressure the couple into silence.

“He knows how hard it hits her every time, and he still does it,” said Hila.

With the H3 Show being live, it’s impossible for the hosts to completely avoid the topic, especially when it gets brought up to them so frequently. With this new information, fans have more insight into why they’ve said so little.

Hila said that she attempted to resolve this over the phone before going public, but that the conversation went nowhere.

“After this, which to me was opening the door, he still chose to do that. That was just, like, honestly a slap in the face,” she said. “The door is shut closed.”

Is Frenemies over for good?

With this vulnerable episode, Ethan and Hila officially close the book on Frenemies and shed more light on who is to blame for its downfall.

“If he really wanted to put the family together, there was a chance here for sure,” Hila said.

Sadly, or happily depending on your camp, the rumors of a Frenemies reunion are officially squashed. But, love it or hate it, the show will surely hold an enduring place in the annals of history.
